Dropped kerbs in town
To cross the footway, a vehicle crossing must be approved by North Yorkshire Council as highway authority. The council considers safety, visibility, junctions, trees and street furniture, and whether your frontage is deep enough to park without overhanging the pavement.
New entrances in the villages
Forming a new access onto a road can need planning permission, particularly onto a classified road. On rural lanes, visibility splays (the clear view a driver needs when pulling out) and how surface water is kept off the road are key considerations. Moving or widening an existing field or garden entrance can raise the same questions.
Our role
We can help you understand what's required, plan the drive and entrance together and lay a bound surface at the road edge so loose material doesn't spill out. The council will confirm who carries out work on the highway.
Approvals first
Please get consent before committing to a new drive or entrance.
